When the fuck is everything happening??? In 2018 (S1) or 2019 (Yingdu)?

Picking up from the discussion in the replies under @kuschelkissen’s post...

The year Doudou was kidnapped, Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi spent their summer* break abroad—we now know this trip was to Yingdu.

*Summer months in China are June-August

The kidnapping and the Yingdu trip happened 3 years before the events in season 1, which took place in 2021:

(Date and time on Lu Guang’s watch right before they first dived into the Doudou case: 2021-10-13, 14:30.)

Three years ago would be 2018—which means ShiGuang should’ve already met by then and grown close enough to be on a trip together. But as we’ve seen in YE1, Lu Guang hasn’t moved in with CXS yet by the end of the Anime Con, which was on June 10, 2019:

(Throughout YE1, this is the only frame of Lu Guang’s watch where the year, 2019, is not blurred out)

The Vivian case started right after…which means that ShiGuang establishing their partnership also happened later since that took place afterward. Notably, throughout the Vivian case, the date was never once shown. But it’s safe to assume that it started on the same day/the day after Anime Con.

So, summing it up so far, ShiGuang has not yet met/formed a partnership in 2018, which they should’ve already done to be able to go to Yingdu together, as implied in S1.

I tried to look for frames showing the actual year Doudou was kidnapped, but guess what I found instead:

If the entire date was in Xs, I could’ve just brushed this off as a design choice to show that the actual date doesn’t matter. However, they purposely revealed 3 digits for the year, leaving only the rightmost digit hidden: 201X

The year being 2021 is prominent throughout season 1:

The kidnapping case taking place three years ago was also mentioned several times. Doing the math is easy, so why still hide the 8 in 2018? Why not just have the entire year in Xs to make it uniform with the month and day?

Did the kidnapping and Yingdu trip actually happen in 2018? If yes, then ShiGuang meeting and partnership should’ve happened much earlier. It doesn’t align with what we’ve been shown in YE1 (partnership established some time after June 10, 2019).

There’s still room for the first meeting date actually taking place in 2018, since the year it happened was never shown. We can only infer that it took place on an April 11 from the date on Cheng Xiaoshi’s phone (April 12) and the text he sent (which uses the word ‘tomorrow’):

However, I’m gonna trust the directors’ scene order choices here. Let’s just assume Yingdu Chapter has ShiGuang first meeting on April 11, 2019.

I’d like to think the confusion here over 2018 vs 2019 is simply due to an error in the anime. Maybe it’s actually just 2018. Or maybe they decided to change the kidnapping/yingdu trip to two years ago instead of three… But such discrepancy on a deliberate detail seems unlikely, especially for Link Click.

Did something happen that the events (first meeting and partnership establishment) are happening a year later than they’re supposed to be? Could Lu Guang be trying to prevent the Yingdu trip?

(Also, wasn’t it mentioned before that ShiGuang met in high school? Why is Lu Guang already a university freshman in the basketball match in Yingdu??? Why are he and CXS still wearing high school uniforms???)

Priest Bożydar Alojzy Skarga !

was supposed to rewrite it so its less coloquial (?) but i never ended up doing it so.

here is the lovely wall of text <3 :

One Sunday, as he was in a confessional, with one of his faithful, in one of the little wooden chapels that the locals had. As they're mid confession a horde reaches the village- since the confessional has full doors they're not aware that a barrel came into the building and it blows up, decimating one of the ceiling supports and mostly destroying the part of the confessional where the other person was.

[Heads up: the name 'Bożydar' literally means God's gift/Godly gift]

He was a priest taking care of a few villages in the area. A phlegmatic of average stature but of little physical strength as he had in habit to fast. (Thinking about giving him glasses too… well see when I draw him)

So uh. Xs. Bożydar got trapped as a bunch of wood fell, blocking his exit (reminder, he's a thin stick with no muscles)

He couldn't do anything to get out or help others, the only thing he could do, was to observe the villager being torn apart next to him and to listen to the yells coming from other inhabitants

Thankfully there were no more barrels heading for the Chapel, so he was spared. Trapped in the ruins of the building, he waited for anything, really. After a day, a group of soldiers came through the wreckage that was once a village and rescued him. Xs. Bożydar ended up being the sole survivor of this attack 👍 with nowhere to go and terrified to the marrow of his bones, he joined the group as their chaplain.

The event caused him to change from a slow paced man to a constantly in a hurry person, always anxious over how the time passes. And since he was caught during a confession, when he was rescued he still had his (I FORGOT THE WORD. GRRRGRGGR. the purple additional cloth that priests wear during confession.) on, and decided to not take it off, ever. Because what happens if he won't be able to cleanse another person off of their sins in time again?

Alojzy is his second name, but to the soldiers he introduce himself as Xs. Alojzy instead of Bożydar, as how could he be a real gift of God's if he was unable to help both sinners and innocents from an unfair end?

He greatly struggles with guilt regarding the situation. Bożydar knows that there was no way for him to do anything, and if asked, he would answer similarly, but buried deep in his mind is the thorn of guilt and sadness. He wants to let it go, but he is unable to.

In addition, he stopped fasting unless its a day that requires it like no meat on Friday. He no longer fasts additional days as he is afraid he will be too weak to do something again (again, illogical as no way bro could lift a whole ass wooden beam, a door and more wood chucnks by himsel even if he was ripped)

Oh yeah! his surname is Skarga [lit. Complaint] not only because haha reference to the other priest Skarga, but at the same time it's a meaningful name (nazwisko znaczące?? Idk) He feels guilty, he thinks that the spirits of the killed would complain about him.

O2A2 Daily Log. DAY/NiGHT 1 (July 5th, 2024)

I'll be posting these until I get to the game's development conclusion!

Day I.

It was around 10 AM when I started working. My initial process laid in drafting the story. After deciding on the main character (in this case, Amaranth) I stripped the story to its two components – place and premise – because in other cases it’d be down to building the plot off of a character, and my mind runs wild whenever I construct it like that.

The place is the library, where souls come after they’ve passed, so an Afterlife Library. And the premise is quite simple – it’s a game for the player’s life! In this case, instead of a gamble it all comes down to outsmarting the machine, ahem, the experienced librarian.

And as a person who barely knows Python beyond freely coding in Ren’py, I wandered to the search engine to find a tutorial and realised that I’ll probably be better off searching on Reddit. One of the posts gave me a really good idea – the OP was talking about imagebuttons and logic and then it clicked for me.

Tic-tac-toe is a game where you draw the image inside the grid spaces, taking turns and adjusting your movements to your opponents’... Was it possible to code something like that?!

(duh, of course it was, this log is a testament to that)

I started by cropping the supposed “images” (solid blocks of two colours – one for the scroll and one for the charcoal), and cropped tiny squares of the scroll's colour. So the layering was like this – background scroll - big dark square - vertical box full of horizontal boxes of scroll’s colour, creating the illusion of a drawn grid, when in reality it is not.

And this marks the beginning of my two-hour suffering. I ditched the idea of imagebuttons that I wanted to go with, since that’d require assets, which I only could use one of. So I opted for textbuttons, and it was the most Hell I’ve had coding.

At first I couldn’t get them to show up. Then, I remembered to set a box just for them (x/y maximum of 70ish, since the squares are 90), had nightmares doing the horizontal and vertical boxes, and increased the font. Hooray! Visible!

Setting a variable on click with “action” function was easy, and soon enough I could fill an entire board with. Xs and Os. Time to code Amaranth’s turn in! (scared)

It wasn’t as scary as I imagined: basically, all tiles are “if” functions, and if they’re empty the player can fill them. If it’s not their turn, they’re not active, and Amaranth is quick to respond (I did a test to see if she’d fill an empty cell and she did!)

Then came the invisible (for now) work – I coded in a win condition. I SCREAMED WITH JOY WHEN I SAW THAT MY ARRAYS FINALLY UPDATED! 

That concluded my day-work!

Night I.

So I decided to push forward and actually coded in her responses!

I took and hardcoded the first two turns for her Xs and the rest was assigned at random. As for Os, I made it do everything at random, since she’s more experienced at playing Xs! (totally not because I didn’t want to look at tic-tac-toe ever again)

Each turn the machine checks if there are any free spaces and if any of the rows match winning conditions. If they do, the player gets to the end plot (I still haven’t written any of it, aaaa!). If they don’t, the game continues until it’s a draw or X’s/O’s win.

With that, I finally slumped into the bed. Even with taking breaks it was kind of a hard exercise to be jumping straight into after a. Year. Of not working with Python’s syntax.

[I’ve cut off a huge text segment of me trying to design a less clunky random placement system, but all of my endeavours led to dead ends caused by my inexperience and complex requests. ALRIGHT, I'VE FINALLY BUILT THE FREEDOM! 🤖🔧😄

I've been built this Real Grade Freedom Gundam since last Friday (4/12/13) (after having fun at the anime con), Saturday and NOW (Sunday) IT'S FINALLY COMPLETED! 😃

OH MAN! STILL I'M SOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY! 😁 THIS IS ALL I WANT AND DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE! 😁

As of 2023, I still have my first Real Grade Gunpla inside the box on the shelves, along side with other Gunplas that my siblings owned. 🙂 Remind me, that I need to buy an "Action Base" [CLICK ME!] (the genuine one from Bandai not the counterfeit one). 🤔💵🐖

Well, it's certainly nice to know I was found through a friend! I always have fun discussing headcanons and such with @grasshopperdoingdogpaddle, always so many fascinating topics of discussion! Though I don't know about considering myself a god (except maybe of chaos haha), I just like to have fun.
